After Free2Move first launched in the U.S. in the Washington, D.C. area, Portland was selected as an ideal location for Free2Move as city leadership has consistently demonstrated its commitment to alternative mobility solutions.
The launch was made possible through a close partnership with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT). "It's great to have free-floating cars-share back in Portland," said Chris Warner, Director of the Portland Bureau of Transportation. "With Free2Move, Portlanders have another option from getting from place to place quickly and easily. We're excited to partner with Free2Move on innovative initiatives to make car-share more accessible and sustainable."
Customers who join Free2Move can start and end trips within a core “home” area of service spanning approximately 20 square miles within the Portland city limits. As a free-floating service, customers can find and use vehicles via the Free2Move mobile application.
“This launch is a significant step forward in providing a unique and tested car sharing transportation option for the area,” said Shant Mouradian, Free2Move Carsharing North America Chief Operating Officer.
Free2Move launched its car-sharing services with 90 Jeep® Renegades, quickly ramping up to 180 within the next few weeks. The fleet will be composed of 150 Jeep Renegades and 30 Jeep Compasses. The vehicle fleet count will continue to increase throughout the remaining part of 2021 with Jeep vehicles. The Renegade is categorized as a subcompact crossover SUV, making it an ideal vehicle for both city needs and weekend getaways. Joining the Renegade in the Free2Move fleet is the Jeep Compass, a compact crossover SUV perfect for journeys requiring a smaller vehicle.
